As lockdown grinds on we run out of box sets and films to watch. A friend recently claimed to have completed Netflix!! For this reason, we thought it worth suggesting some movies you may not have seen or haven’t seen in several years. It would be a stretch to call any of them obscure but perhaps they can provide some TV inspiration. Not only are they very entertaining pieces of film, but they also have particularly eye-catching movie posters. Furthermore, we have the posters for all 3 movies on our website priced at£100 or less.
Out of Sight (1998)
A movie starring George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez could never be described as obscure, however, Out of Sight is now 22 years old and may merit a re-visit. There is a prison break, a theft of uncut diamonds and J-Lo beating a sex pest with a flick baton all packed into 2 hours and 3 minutes. It also has a killer soundtrack by David Holmes who went on to score the soundtracks for many of Steven Soderbergh’s subsequent films such as the Ocean’s trilogy. Interesting that Cliff Martinez gets the credit for the music on the poster. The poster we have on offer is a cool 3 tone vintage number that looks like something one would have found in Vegas when the Mafia ran the city.
Senna (2010)
In our minds Asif Kapadia has firmly established himself as the most exciting documentary maker to have emerged in the last 10 years. His films have also looked at Diego Maradona and Amy Winehouse though Senna was his first major release. Obviously, a tone of sadness runs through his films, but Kapadia subtlety addresses an injustice that has led to the heart-breaking demise of his subject matters. In the case of Senna, the injustice is the lack of safety measures in the sport of Formula 1 prior to his death. In all 3 films, the music scored by Antonio Pinto adds an emotion to the film that can engage even uninterested viewers.
A Prophet (2009)
‘Takes its Place among the greatest Crime Films ever Made’ is one description of the film that made it onto the quad poster. One of the later scenes is reminiscent of the closing scenes of Scarface. French language Palme D’Or winner starring Tahir Rahim as Malik, a young man struggling to get by in a French prison. Far from being a one trick pony prison drama, the film also follows the actions of now hardened criminal Malik on the outside. Fans of the tv series Gomorrah and the more recent ‘ZeroZeroZero’ will be familiar with the gripping tension that runs through every single scene. At times not for the faint-hearted.
