This is an original Belgian poster for the first release of the film Le Mepris. Paul Javal a young French playwright on the up accepts a job from vulgar American producer Jeremy Prokosch who wants Javal to re-write a script of a film being directed by Fritz Lang. Javal’s wife Camille is played by Brigitte Bardot and the presence of Prokosch drives a wedge between husband and wife. Camille develops what she describes as mépris (contempt) for her husband. There have been a number of outstanding images produced for the film's posters and first release posters are increasingly hard to come by. This image features Brigette Bardot sunbathing.
