This is an original Star Wars poster for a 1982 re-release of the film and features the film title in the crawl style text used in the opening of the film. Also promoted is the forthcoming release of the 'The Revenge of the Jedi'? the original name for the 3rd film in the series before the word Revenge was changed to Return as Jedi's are not vengeful. The poster is in excellenct condition with some minor edge wear on the left hand side which could be covered with framing. This is an original poster for the Empire Strikes Back printed to mark the release of the film in Japan. The much sought-after artwork, by Noriyoshi Ohrai, was used on international posters and Japanese posters. This version of the poster was printed by Toho Co., Ltd., a Japanese film, theatre production and distribution company. Unusually for a poster on our website it was originally printed for sale during the original screenings of the Empire Strikes Back in Japan. However, because this poster was commissioned, or printed with the permission of the studio it is considered an original. The green-tinged artwork is beautiful and Hans Solo kissing Princess Leah takes centre stage. Smuggler turned Rebel Alliance General, Lando Calrissian also has a prominent role in the image while Darth Vadar?s helmut looms in the background. The poster is in excellent condition, with minimal edge or surface wear, though it should be noted that there are tape and pen marks on the reverse. -
This is an original style D poster for the film Star Wars. It is widely known as the Circus Poster and on the request of George Lucas George Lucas features ?Luke and Leah? swinging on a rope. Charles White produced the sketch and airbrush sections of the poster while Drew Struzan painted the portraits with oil. After carefully producing the painting you see on the 'postage stamp', the realised they had left no space for the credits and came up with the solution to paint the Obi Wan Kinobi on the right-hand side thus creating the scale required for the credits at the bottom. The first printing of the poster was done in the summer of 1978. (The film was so popular that it had continued to run in cinemas since its release in 1977.) The poster was commissioned to be re-printed in 1992 but this version is from 1978 print run. It is linen backed and in outstanding condition which can be best assessed in the third unframed image.
About our original Star Wars Posters
The first three Star Wars films produced by George Lucas between 1977 and 1983 are quite simply some of the most popular, and indeed beautiful cinema posters ever produced. The first Stars Wars film (A New Hope) was a phenomenon as soon as it hit the cinemas. In fact, the films were so popular that the Style A US Poster had 4 different print runs (with slightly different NSS codes) that are all considered first release posters. Despite this relatively high supply of Star Wars posters demand and price continue to soar. The ‘Gone with the Wind’ style poster for the Empire Strikes Back is considered by many to be the most cinema beautiful poster of all time. 1999 saws the release of The Phantom Menace which is in fact the first film in chronological order. A brilliant poster was needed to signal the return of the mega-franchise and it was delivered. 5 subsequent films were produced with the 2019 film The Rise of Skywalker being the finale.
