Dr. No is the movie that launched the James Bond phenomenon into the US, and this is the poster that was used to promote it. Bond with a cigarette in one hand and a gun in the other lounges next to 4 seductive women. Small line drawings of scenes from the movie are used. Red and yellow are colours that portray passion while the use of black green and yellow is perhaps a nod to the film's Jamaican setting. You can observe grey smoke coming from Bonds cigarette. In the first run of prints of these posters the smoke was yellow but this was changed in later print runs. Both posters are equally desirable, and this is a special and rare poster. James Bond needs little introduction. Other movie franchises have grossed more in cinemas but these franchises tend to be more modern and have fewer movies. The first Bond film, Dr. No, was released in 1962 and since that there have been another 24 movies. This makes the Bond franchise popular with a much wider range of age groups than some modern franchises. The body of artwork of artwork, with ever evolving styles, 60 years of Bond films has produced is simply stunning.
One obvious change in poster styles was the transitions from hand painted images to computer generated images in the 80’s. The Living Daylights in 1987 was the last Bond promotional campaign to be hand painted, with artwork by Brian Bysouth.
