This is an Original UK Quad Poster for the 1955 film The Man with the Golden Arm. The Man with the Golden Arm is the film poster that shot artist Saul Bass to fame in the film industry. The film is a hard-hitting examination of drug addiction a taboo subject in the 1950s. The artist uses the distorted arm to reflect the damage addiction inflicts on the human body. The distorted arm was also used in the opening sequence title (also produced by Saul Bass) and the advertising campaign. This nuanced focus on the arm was a completely new approach for the promotion of films which before this had largely revolved around the film star. Frank Sinatra, in what is what is widely agreed to be his finest film performance, plays addict Frankie who gets clean while in prison but struggles to stay drug-free when released. The real lure of this documentary however, is that its produced and narrated by none other than BANKSY. BANKSY's involvement and style leads the viewer to question throughout if what they're watching is an elaborate hoax, and this makes for a hugely unpredictable and entertaining experience.
